Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s healthcare system, announcing that 369 clinical students have so far benefited from the revitalized Benue State bond scheme designed to address manpower shortages in the health sector.

Governor Alia made the disclosure on Saturday, October 11, 2025, while presenting his administration’s scorecard at an expanded All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s State Secretariat in Makurdi.

According to the governor, the restructured bond program was specifically tailored to ensure sustainability and accountability, requiring all beneficiaries to serve a compulsory two-year term in state-owned hospitals upon graduation. He said the initiative reflects his administration’s resolve to expand access to efficient and affordable medical services across Benue communities.

Governor Alia also praised the management of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), describing it as “a centre of medical excellence and a growing hub of healthcare innovation.”

He singled out the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, and his team for their transformative leadership, which has elevated BSUTH’s reputation to one of the top teaching hospitals in Nigeria.

The governor highlighted the hospital’s recent infrastructural improvements, modern equipment acquisition, and a motivated workforce committed to world-class healthcare delivery. He added that the salaries of medical staff—including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists—have been harmonized with those of their counterparts in federal and other top-tier teaching hospitals nationwide.

The stakeholders’ meeting attracted APC leaders, government officials, and supporters from across the state, who applauded the governor’s achievements and his administration’s focus on rebuilding critical sectors for the benefit of the people.
