Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN), has strongly condemned the brutal killing of two Igede youths along the Awajir-Oju road in Benue State, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and unacceptable.
According to reports by Citizen Television, the victims were travelling on a motorcycle from Oju when they were ambushed and murdered in cold blood by unknown assailants. The attack has sparked outrage and concern among residents and leaders across the state.
Reacting to the tragic event, Chief Aondoakaa stressed that no person or group has the right to take the law into their hands or invade another community under any circumstance. He emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue in resolving disputes and urged all communities to adopt nonviolent approaches in addressing grievances.
“The bloodshed in Benue must stop. This is a land known for peace and order,” Aondoakaa stated, calling on security agencies to act swiftly in apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring they face the full weight of the law.
Speaking also as Chairman of the Board of Directors of MIKAP Nigeria Limited, producers of MIVA Rice, Aondoakaa expressed concern that such violence is resurfacing just as Benue is beginning to enjoy a measure of stability. He warned that acts of violence and reprisal could undermine the fragile peace and urged both the government and citizens to work together in sustaining security across the state.
He further urged governments at all levels to beef up security presence in vulnerable areas and take proactive steps to prevent further attacks. He reminded security agencies of their constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
Chief Aondoakaa appealed to members of the Igede community to remain calm and law-abiding while security operatives carry out their investigations. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the slain youths and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls.
