Armed Fulani herders on Friday evening launched a violent attack on Tse Tyondun, a quiet settlement near Gyungu Amua, along the Daudu–Gbajimba road in Mbadwem Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants stormed the community without warning, firing sporadically and sending residents into a state of panic. Many villagers abandoned their homes and belongings, fleeing into nearby bushes for safety.

The extent of casualties remains unclear as of press time, with local sources reporting that several families are still missing and unaccounted for. A resident, who narrowly escaped the attack, described the scene as “chaotic and terrifying,” adding that some homes were reportedly set ablaze.

Security operatives and community vigilantes have since been mobilized to the area, but tension remains high as residents fear possible follow-up attacks.

This incident adds to the growing wave of violent attacks in Benue’s Guma Local Government Area, which has been a flashpoint for clashes between herders and farming communities in recent years. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the attack.
