LThe Association for the Rights of Persons with Dwarfism has strongly condemned the involvement of individuals with dwarfism for entertainment purposes during the recent celebration honoring Spanish football sensation Lamine Yamal.
In an official statement released on Monday, the organization described the use of people with dwarfism as a form of amusement as “dehumanizing, discriminatory, and deeply offensive.”
It announced plans to take legal and public action against the organizers of the event, citing a violation of dignity and human rights.
“The Association condemns the involvement of people with dwarfism for entertainment purposes at Yamal’s celebration and will take legal and public action,” the statement read.
The controversy has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many accusing event planners of perpetuating harmful stereotypes.
Yamal, who turned heads with his dazzling performances for Barcelona last season, was being celebrated after helping Hansi Flick’s side clinch both the LaLiga title and the Copa del Rey.
The 17-year-old forward is now poised to inherit Lionel Messi’s legendary No.10 jersey, a move that cements his rising status within the club and the world of football.
Neither Yamal nor FC Barcelona has issued a public comment regarding the Association’s statement at the time of filing this report.
