This evening, Eric Chelle, the newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles, took charge of an intensive training session with the home-based Super Eagles squad like Joseph Atule, signaling a new phase of preparations ahead of their upcoming friendly match.

A total of twenty-seven players, all drawn from clubs in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), participated in the session, which focused on tactical drills, fitness checks, and team coordination.

However, the absence of four invited players raised eyebrows. Sources close to the team suggest that the missing players may be finalizing overseas transfer deals, a development that could impact their availability for national team duties in the short term.

As part of the build-up to Thursday’s friendly fixture, the coaching crew is expected to trim the roster by dropping at least three players, bringing the final squad size to twenty-four. The decision will be based on performance during training and tactical fit.

This training marks one of the first major steps in Chelle’s leadership of the national side, with many eyes on how he integrates local talent and prepares the team for future international assignments.
