Mkor Aondona Donatus, Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Documentation, Research and Planning, has taken legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), its chairman, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), seeking enforcement of his fundamental human rights.
In a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Makurdi, marked FHC/MKD/…/2025, Aondona is invoking constitutional provisions under Sections 33, 34(1), 35, 37, 42(1)(a), 43, and 44(1)(a) & (b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as well as Articles 3, 4, 5, 6, 14, 19, 21(a), 22, 24, 28, and 34 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
Brought pursuant to Orders 2 Rule 8(1)-(3) and Order 39 Rule 1 of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2021, the motion seeks judicial intervention to restrain alleged unlawful actions by the EFCC and its leadership. The matter is yet to be assigned a hearing date.
The legal move follows Aondona’s arrest on Friday, June 20, 2025, by operatives of the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate. He was taken into custody over allegations of sextortion, cyber-bullying, and blackmail.
Petitioners — reportedly female students — accused the governor’s aide of exploiting his position to recruit slim and attractive young women for ushering jobs, demanding sexual favours as a precondition.
They allege that he secretly recorded the sexual encounters without consent and used the footage to threaten and coerce them into continuing the relationships.
The EFCC has yet to issue an official response to the lawsuit.
