The Benue State Government, through the Bureau for Education Quality Assurance (BEQA), has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing a musician, identified as Egyptian Cairo, performing a song containing indecent lyrics before students at a secondary school.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Director General of BEQA, Dr. Terna Francis, said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred at Foundation College, Abeda Shitile.
Dr. Francis condemned the act, describing it as a gross violation of moral and ethical standards expected in learning environments. He stressed that such performances contradict the core principles of education quality assurance and the state’s vision for moral excellence in schools.
“While we support creative expressions as part of holistic learning, indecency, vulgarity, and any form of immorality have no place in our schools,” the statement read. “BEQA will not condone any activity that undermines the moral upbringing of our students.”
He urged the public to remain calm as the Bureau carries out a comprehensive investigation to determine how the musician gained access to the school and under what circumstances the event took place.
According to him, the findings of the investigation will be submitted to the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management for appropriate disciplinary and administrative action.
Dr. Francis reaffirmed BEQA’s commitment to promoting discipline, moral integrity, and academic excellence across all schools in Benue State, in line with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s vision for a value-based education system.
