The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to the Federal Government, demanding the full implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of 2017.

The party declared that there is no vacant land in the state to be designated for grazing reserves or settlements.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, the PDP condemned the continuous attacks on communities in Benue, describing them as a serious threat to peace, livelihoods, and human dignity.

The party reaffirmed its firm support for the anti-open grazing law, calling it the only homegrown solution to the persistent killings and mass displacements in the state.

“This law was borne out of deep consultation and reflects the collective will of the people of Benue. It is not just legislation—it is our shield for peace and survival,” the statement read.

The PDP cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government against any attempt to impose grazing reserves or settlements in the state, insisting that such a move would amount to a violation of the rights and ancestral heritage of the Benue people.

“There is no vacant land in Benue for external interests. Our land is ancestral and sacred. Any attempt to grab it under any guise will be strongly resisted,” the party stated.

The party also called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to uphold the law without compromise and resist any pressure to amend or weaken its provisions.

Any such concession, it warned, would be seen as a betrayal of the trust reposed in him by the people.

“The time for talking is over. Our people are dying, communities are being razed, and farms are abandoned. What is needed now is action, not rhetoric,” the statement concluded.

The PDP’s firm position comes amid growing tension and insecurity in parts of Benue, fueled by violent clashes linkedto open grazing.
