Tragedy struck in Benue State over the weekend as a local politician, Hon. Sunday Idoko, was killed by yet-to-be-identified assailants in his residence at Otukpo.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, August 9, 2025, at the victim’s home on Anmoda Road, Ohimini Local Government Area. Sources revealed that Idoko was attacked with a machete to the head inside his house.
According to a family friend, Hon. Emoni Mohammed, the crime came to light after Idoko’s children raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene. Despite efforts to get him medical attention, he was confirmed dead.
His remains have been deposited at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital Mortuary in Otukpo for autopsy.
Police authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway to apprehend those responsible for the killing. Meanwhile, the shocking incident has thrown the Otukpo and Ohimini communities into mourning, with residents calling for swift justice.
