British boxing has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of former world champion Ricky Hatton.
Hatton, fondly known as “The Hitman”, was discovered at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on Sunday morning. Police confirmed they were called to the address at 6:45 am after reports from a member of the public.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said:
“Officers attended Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, where they found the body of a 46-year-old man. There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
His passing comes just weeks after he announced plans for a sensational return to the boxing ring, sparking excitement among fans eager to see him lace up his gloves once more.
Hatton, who enjoyed a glittering career between 1997 and 2012, won multiple world and UK titles and cemented his status as one of Britain’s most popular fighters. Known for his relentless style, charisma, and loyal fanbase, he remains a beloved figure in the sport.
The former light-welterweight and welterweight champion is survived by his son Campbell—also a professional boxer—two daughters, Millie and Fearne, and a granddaughter, Lyla.
