A former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), just days after stepping down as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Tuesday during the formal inauguration of the newly constituted FAAN board in Abuja.

Ganduje’s appointment comes barely a week after his surprise resignation from the ruling party’s top leadership position.

He had cited “urgent and personal matters” as the reason for his decision to vacate the office of APC National Chairman, a role he had held since August 2023.

Following his resignation, the APC appointed the Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, as the party’s new helmsman in an acting capacity.

Ganduje’s transition from the political party hierarchy to a key federal appointment is seen as a strategic move within Nigeria’s political landscape, and observers say it reflects ongoing realignments within the ruling party.

Further details regarding the board’s mandate and Ganduje’s plans in his new role are expected in thecoming days.
