Former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has been confirmed dead.

The news was officially announced on Saturday afternoon by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, and later reaffirmed by his longtime spokesperson, Garba Shehu.

In a brief statement released by Garba Shehu, he said:

“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”

The late Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military ruler from 1983 to 1985 and as democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, died in the United Kingdom, where he was reportedly receiving medical attention.

As tributes continue to pour in from around the country and abroad, many Nigerians are reflecting on his long-standing role in shaping the political landscape of the nation.
