The House of Representatives has amended the Electoral Act 2026 to criminalise dual membership of political parties.

Under the new provision, anyone found guilty of belonging to more than one political party at the same time will face a fine of ₦10 million.

The amendment was passed during Wednesday’s plenary session in the green chamber.

Lawmakers also introduced a penalty of up to two years in prison for offenders, strengthening measures to curb political party violations.
