Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with a non-life-threatening vein condition following public concern over his visibly swollen legs and bruised right hand, the White House announced on Thursday.
The 79-year-old Republican frontrunner was found to have chronic venous insufficiency, a condition in which leg veins struggle to send blood back to the heart.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump began experiencing “mild swelling in his lower legs” over recent weeks, prompting medical evaluation.
In addition, the prominent bruising on Trump’s right hand—widely speculated about in media and political circles—was attributed to “frequent handshaking” during campaign events, coupled with his regular use of aspirin as part of a standard cardiovascular health regimen.
“This is a common condition in older adults and does not pose any serious health risk,” Leavitt assured reporters during the briefing. “President Trump remains in strong health and continues to maintain a rigorous campaign schedule.”
Trump, who is seeking a return to the White House in the 2024 election, has faced periodic scrutiny over his health, especially given his age. However, aides insist he remains physically and mentally fit for another term.
Medical experts say chronic venous insufficiency can cause leg swelling, discomfort, and changes in skin coloration but is manageable with lifestyle changes, compression therapy, and routine monitoring.
