Abuja, July 8, 2025 — Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian universities have agreed on a minimum admission benchmark of 150 for the 2025 academic session as part of the Varsity Admission policy.

In light of the new Varsity Admission guidelines,

The decision was reached during the annual policy meeting on admissions held on Tuesday and organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The policy meeting, which brought together stakeholders from universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions, is a key platform for setting guidelines and standards for admissions across the country.

During the session, the Vice-Chancellors collectively resolved that 150 would serve as the minimum Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score for admission into universities, while individual institutions still retain the liberty to set their own cut-off marks above this baseline.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, emphasized that the benchmark was not a mandate but a national minimum.

He urged universities to ensure transparency and fairness in their admission processes, particularly with the adoption of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

The new cut-off will guide the 2025/2026 admission exercise into public and private universities across Nigeria.
