A 27-year-old woman, identified as Esther Akwaji, has reportedly collapsed and died under mysterious circumstances while eating at her boyfriend’s residence in Dei-Dei, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to SaharaReporters, the incident occurred after Esther, a resident of Nasarawa State, travelled to the FCT to visit family members. On January 21, she reportedly left her family home, telling relatives she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei, but failed to return.
Sources said the family later received a phone call from a man who identified himself as Esther’s boyfriend, using her mobile phone. The caller reportedly informed them that Esther had visited him and that he had bought food for them to eat.
The man allegedly stated that while they were eating, Esther suddenly began vomiting. He claimed he rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she was dead on arrival.
However, the boyfriend reportedly fled the hospital shortly after Esther was pronounced dead and has remained unreachable since the incident, raising suspicion over the circumstances surrounding her death.
Confirming the development, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Command had launched a full investigation into the matter.
“The corpse has been deposited for autopsy to determine the actual cause of death, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect,” Adeh said.
Police investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to unravel the circumstances leading to Esther’s sudden death.
