The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) has commenced the disbursement of ₦7.1 million in financial assistance to 2,434 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the recent violent attack in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area.
According to Citizen Television Newsroom, the cash relief effort is jointly funded by a ₦6 million donation from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume Dajo, and an additional ₦1.1 million contributed by Engr. Hyacinth Abela.
The cash distribution exercise began on Wednesday evening at the Makurdi International Market temporary IDP camp, with the aim of easing the economic hardship faced by victims who lost their homes, livelihoods, and sense of stability in the aftermath of the crisis.
In a statement issued by BSEMA’s Information Officer, Tema Ager, the agency emphasized that the exercise is being executed using KoboCollect, a digital data-gathering tool designed to promote transparency and accountability.
Under the leadership of Sir James Iorpuu Aondoakaa, PhD, BSEMA reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting displaced communities across the state. The agency also extended its heartfelt appreciation to all donors and stakeholders who continue to stand in solidarity with the victims of violence in Benue.
Efforts like these, BSEMA noted, are vital in rebuilding trust, restoring dignity, and providing a lifeline to those devastated by persistent insecurity in the region.
