An Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, has discharged Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger accused of unruly behaviour and assault during an August 10 flight.
Presiding Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the five-count charge against Emmanson on Wednesday following the withdrawal of the case by the prosecution.
Prosecution counsel, Oluwabunmi Adeitan, applied to withdraw the matter after Ibom Air formally dropped its complaint. The decision came in the wake of an announcement by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who revealed that consultations with aviation stakeholders, appeals from concerned Nigerians, and expressions of remorse from the parties involved had paved the way for an amicable resolution.
Emmanson, who was arraigned on Monday, had earlier been granted ₦500,000 bail with two sureties but was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending fulfilment of the conditions.
With the court’s decision, the legal battle between Ibom Air and the passenger has now come to a close.
