Tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday as a Dangote truck collided with a Benue Links passenger bus along the Lagos–Kogi State expressway, leaving many injured.
The crash, which occurred at about 5:11 a.m., 14th September, 2025 caused chaos on the busy highway. Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision was severe, with passengers from the Benue Links bus sustaining varying degrees of injuries. They were quickly rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Swift intervention from the Nigerian Army stationed in the area helped avert further disaster. Soldiers were praised by commuters for their rapid response in controlling the situation, assisting the victims, and restoring order on the expressway.
The truck driver, who reportedly attempted to flee the scene after the crash, was immediately apprehended by the army personnel and handed over to the appropriate authorities for investigation.
As of the time of this report, the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed. Authorities have, however, launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.
The accident has once again raised concerns over the safety standards of heavy-duty trucks plying Nigerian highways, as well as the need for stricter regulations to curb road mishaps.
