It was a day of celebration, heartfelt tributes, and generous gestures yesterday in Uyo as dignitaries gathered to honour Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, on her 54th birthday.
The colourful ceremony witnessed the presence of high-ranking senators, top officials from the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Federal Government, influential private sector leaders, and family members — including children and grandchildren of the celebrant.
Notably, Africa’s richest man, Dr. Aliko Dangote, was among the distinguished guests who turned out to celebrate the milestone.
Highlights of the event included the exchange of gifts, cutting of a beautifully adorned birthday cake, and a stream of praises that poured in from all corners.
The occasion also provided a moment for reflection on Mrs. Akpabio’s enduring contributions to society.
In an emotionally charged tribute, Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed deep affection and admiration for his wife, describing her as a beacon of compassion and service.
“My dear wife, words cannot describe my joy as you add another year to your age today,” he said. “Your life is replete with positive impact on humanity.
Your love for fellow women, children, and the less privileged in our society will continue to be celebrated.”
He lauded her role as the former First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, especially through the Family Life Enhancement Initiative (FLEI), which, he said, “changed frowns to smiles on the faces of thousands of Akwa Ibom people.”
Even after leaving office in 2015, Mrs. Akpabio has remained committed to humanitarian service.
Through numerous empowerment initiatives, free medical outreaches, and housing projects for widows and vulnerable citizens, she has continued to touch lives across communities.
The event was not just a celebration of age but a recognition of a legacy of compassion and public service that continues to inspire.
