Former federal lawmaker and outspoken politician, Senator Dino Melaye, made his first appearance as a practicing lawyer on Friday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, donning his legal wig and gown since his recent call to the bar.
Melaye, who is a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite during a court proceeding at Court 8 of the Federal High Court.
Announcing his debut as a legal practitioner, Melaye posted on his official Facebook page: “Senator Dino Melaye @ the Federal High Court Abuja today. Appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite of Court 8.”
The former senator was among over 5,000 new lawyers called to the Nigerian Bar in Abuja earlier this year. He graduated from Baze University, Abuja, where he obtained his law degree.
Melaye previously represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, where he gained national attention for his fiery speeches, controversial style, and bold criticism of those in power.
His transition into the legal profession has been widely noted, especially among the youth, many of whom admire his unfiltered political commentary and advocacy for justice.
His appearance in court as a lawyer marks a new chapter in his public career, blending his experience in governance with the practice of law.
