The Federal Ministry of Environment has issued a flood prediction alert, warning that several states across the country are likely to experience heavy rainfall that may result in flooding between September 4 and September 8, 2025.
According to a statement from the National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEWS CENTER), the areas most at risk include parts of Ebonyi, Cross River, Kano, Zamfara, Taraba, Abia, Yobe, Plateau, Borno, Imo, Niger, Sokoto, Kaduna, Akwa Ibom, and others.
The specific locations identified are:
Ebonyi State: Afikpo
Cross River State: Edor, Ikom, Itigidi, Akpap
Kano State: Gwarzo, Karaye
Zamfara State: Anka, Gummi, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Bukkuyum
Taraba State: Dampar, Duchi, Garkowa, Gassol, Gembu, Gun Gun Bodel, Kambari, Mayo Ranewo, Mutum Biyu, Bandawa, Ngaruwa
Abia State: Eziama, Umuahia
Yobe State: Geidam, Kanama, Potiskum
Plateau State: Langtang, Shendam, Wase
Borno State: Ngala
Imo State: Okigwe, Otoko
Niger State: Sarki Pawa
Sokoto State: Sokoto, Wamakko, Isa, Shagari, Makira
Kaduna State: Kafanchan
Akwa Ibom State: Oron

The Ministry urged residents, state governments, and relevant stakeholders in these areas to take precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impact of flooding.
Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, emphasized the importance of timely response and preparedness, noting that feedback and collaboration from stakeholders will be critical in managing the situation effectively.
