The Federal Government has approved a N5 billion intervention fund for traders affected by the devastating fire that razed parts of Singer Market in Kano on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima announced the donation during a sympathy visit to the market on Monday.

Speaking in Kano, Shettima said the financial support was aimed at helping victims rebuild their businesses and revive economic activities within the market.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the sum of N5 billion to support traders affected by the Singer Market fire. The Federal Government stands with you in this moment of hardship and will continue to provide the necessary support,” he stated.

The fire outbreak, which occurred last week, destroyed goods and properties worth billions of naira, leaving many traders in distress.

Describing the incident as a national tragedy, Shettima noted that the loss was not only for Kano State but for the entire country.

The Vice-President was accompanied by the governors of Jigawa, Kebbi, and Imo states, as he offered prayers for the victims and called for the prevention of similar disasters in the future.

Reacting to the gesture, the Chairman of the Singer Market Traders Association, Junaid Zakari, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, describing the intervention as timely and generous.

He assured that the funds would be properly utilized to support affected traders and restore business activities in the historic market.
