The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has cautioned Nigerians against falling victim to fraudsters exploiting the planned sale of 753 housing units recently forfeited to the Federal Government by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC officially handed over the estate to the ministry in May 2025. Shortly after, the Minister of Housing, Ahmed Dangiwa, announced that the Federal Government would sell the houses to interested members of the public through a transparent and competitive process, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
However, the ministry, in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja and signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, disowned claims by a company allegedly parading itself as the “appointed auctioneer” for the sale of the property.
Haiba explained that the fraudulent company had circulated proposals and letters of introduction to unsuspecting Nigerians and government agencies, asking them to purchase an Expression of Interest form to buy the houses.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no sales of the 753 units of houses have commenced by the ministry. The ministry is informing the public that it will give a clear and adequate announcement regarding the sale as well as a strategy outlined for the sales of the houses, as directed by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.
The ministry further advised Nigerians to seek clarification directly from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development through the Department of Public Building and Housing Development, as well as the Press and Public Relations unit, before committing resources to any purported transaction.
Haiba stressed that the Federal Government remains committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in the disposal of the forfeited housing units.
