Former National party leader, elder statesman, Senator Barnabas Gemade, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, on his recent appointment as Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on Saturday, July 5, 2025, by his media aide, Senator Gemade described Al-Makura’s appointment as a well-deserved recognition of his wealth of experience, leadership acumen, and unwavering commitment to public service and national development.
Gemade noted that Al-Makura’s track record as a former governor and senator makes him eminently qualified to lead the UBEC in its core mandate of improving the quality of basic education across Nigeria.

Senator Gemade also commended President Tinubu for making what he described as a strategic and forward-thinking appointment, expressing optimism that Al-Makura will bring significant reforms and progress to Nigeria’s basic education sector.
