Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of two young Kano indigenes — Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad — in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
In a press statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor disclosed that the victims were attacked around 11:00 p.m. on Monday, 24th June 2025, by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.
The duo, who were in Makurdi for lawful business, were reportedly profiled and killed in cold blood without provocation.
Describing the act as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable,” Governor Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. “It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano.
They were innocent, peace-loving citizens whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work anywhere in Nigeria,” he said.
The governor pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies and the Benue State Government to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
He also appealed for calm and restraint, urging citizens not to take the law into their own hands.
In a show of solidarity, the governor announced he will personally lead a high-level delegation — including the bereaved families — to the funeral prayers scheduled at the National Mosque in Abuja.
Governor Yusuf extended heartfelt condolences to prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, the father of the deceased, describing the incident as a tragic loss not just to the family but to Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to justice, assuring that “this government will not rest until the killers are found and prosecuted.”
