Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of two Igede youths along the Awajir-Oju road, as well as a violent attack on Nyifon community in Buruku Local Government Area.
According to security reports, the victims were traveling from Oju on a motorcycle when they were ambushed and killed. In a separate incident, Nyifon community in Mbaikyongo Ward was reportedly attacked by youths from Mbayaka community in Kusuv, both in Buruku LGA, following a misunderstanding linked to a boat mishap.
Describing both incidents as “uncalled for and unfortunate,” Governor Alia stated that no person or group has the right to invade another community or take lives under any circumstance.
“This state is beginning to enjoy some level of security stability. I will not tolerate any attempt by anyone, regardless of their status or intentions, to instigate unrest or threaten the peace we are working hard to sustain,” the Governor said.
The Governor has directed security agencies to immediately move in, liaise with traditional rulers, and ensure the perpetrators are identified and arrested within 48 hours to face the full wrath of the law.
Confirming the Governor’s position in a statement issued on Tuesday, Sir Tersoo Kula, mnipr, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, emphasized that Governor Alia remains fully committed to protecting the lives and property of all Benue citizens.
He urged all communities across the state to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and supportive of ongoing investigations.
