In a significant political development, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has officially dissolved the Benue State Executive Council.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, during the 12th meeting of the council held at Government House, Makurdi.
As part of the shake-up, Governor Alia appointed Barrister Moses Atagher, a two-time former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as the new Chief of Staff.
Barr. Atagher, a seasoned legal expert and administrator, previously served as the acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. His appointment takes immediate effect.
Governor Alia expressed his gratitude to the outgoing commissioners for their service over the past two years, noting that while not all may be reappointed, they remain vital members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) family in the state.
“This is an opportunity to allow others the chance to contribute to the development of Benue. I appreciate the dedication and loyalty you all demonstrated in your respective ministries,” the governor said.
It was clarified that the dissolution only affects commissioners, while other appointees, including the new Chief of Staff, remain in office.
Speaking on behalf of the outgoing commissioners, former Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim, thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve.
“Every position of service is a learning experience. We have gained knowledge and insight working with you and for the people of Benue,” Mnyim remarked.
The outgoing commissioners have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries immediately.
The announcement was conveyed through a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula (mnipr).
