Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has honoured Nigeria’s football star, Francisca Mlumun Ordega, with a generous gift of ₦50 million and a fully furnished three-bedroom flat within Makurdi, the state capital.
The governor made the announcement during a special dinner held at the New Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi, in celebration of Ordega’s recent achievement as part of the Super Falcons squad that clinched the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy.
In addition to Ordega’s reward, Governor Alia also presented her coach with a cash gift of ₦10 million in recognition of his role in nurturing and guiding the player’s career.
Governor Alia praised Ordega for her dedication, resilience, and commitment to representing Benue and Nigeria at the highest level of women’s football. He noted that her achievements have brought pride and joy to the state and will inspire upcoming athletes to pursue excellence.
Ordega, visibly moved by the gesture, expressed her gratitude to the governor and the people of Benue State, promising to continue giving her best on and off the field.
The event was attended by top government officials, sports administrators, family members, and well-wishers who hailed the governor’s gesture as a morale booster for sports development in the state.
