The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has launched a Housing Fraud Detection and Reporting Web Portal to enable Nigerians report fraudulent practices in the real estate sector.
The platform, hosted at https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, allows users to submit complaints, upload evidence, and track cases of fraud in housing estates across the country.
Speaking during the live demonstration of the system on Wednesday, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the initiative was guided by the 2012 National Housing Policy, which mandates government to enforce stronger regulatory oversight of the housing sector.
> “The policy mandates the establishment of an efficient administrative, legal, and regulatory framework to monitor housing delivery and ensure that practitioners are properly registered with their professional bodies,” Dangiwa stated.
He added that the policy also empowers the Ministry to scrutinize estate developers through certification and regulation, while moving towards the establishment of a National Housing and Urban Development Regulatory Commission for stronger sector-wide coordination.
Dangiwa emphasized that the newly launched platform would empower citizens to expose sharp practices and strengthen transparency in housing transactions.
“Too many hardworking Nigerians have fallen prey to fraudulent operators in the real estate industry. This portal provides a credible, safe, and transparent channel to report such cases. Offenders will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.
The Minister commended the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the development committee, and consultants for driving the initiative, stressing that the goal is to restore trust in the sector and ensure that Nigerians can invest and own homes with confidence.
In his remarks, the Deputy Director and Head of ICT at the Ministry, Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, disclosed that the platform was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He described it as a user-friendly system that gives Nigerians the power to report fraud from anywhere in the country.
Amiolemen also announced the introduction of a new Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS), an innovation designed to strengthen oversight of housing projects.
The system features a real-time dashboard for project tracking, contractor performance monitoring based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), mobile field reporting, and a centralized document repository for contracts and payment records.
He stressed that the dual initiatives reflect the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery in the housing and urban development sector.
The launch event also featured a technical demonstration by the consultants—Freestone Investments Limited and Prunedge Development Technologies Limited.
