Fresh security concerns have emerged in Benue State following intelligence reports of suspected Fulani mercenaries allegedly mobilizing to launch a large-scale attack on communities in Tombo Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area.
According to a security alert obtained on Sunday evening, September 7, 2025, around 7:30 p.m., a significant number of suspected armed men were sighted crossing through Kwantan Tunga, a neighboring settlement in Awe LGA of Nasarawa State. The report stated that while some have already moved in groups, others are said to be camping at Gidin-Mangor, Anyibe, Shaor, and other deserted settlements in Tombo.
The intelligence further alleged that the fighters’ mission is to carry out what was described as a “massive and unforgettable attack” on the people of Tombo Ward. It warned that additional fighters were still being mobilized by their sponsors and could cross into the area soon, heightening the risk of imminent violence.
Sources raised concerns that the number of operatives currently stationed in Ayilamo and other neighboring settlements might be insufficient to confront the alleged threat. The intelligence also suggested that “component strike support” would be required for any effective response.
Authorities in Benue and Nasarawa are yet to issue an official statement regarding the development.
