Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has dismissed as false and baseless recent media reports suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had relieved him of his duties.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by his Director of Press and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, Akume described the claims as a fabrication orchestrated by mischief makers determined to mislead the public.
“The information is entirely false, misleading, and lacks any basis in fact, as Mr. President has no intention of doing so,” the statement emphasized. Akume maintained that President Tinubu reposes “unwavering confidence” in his ability to effectively deliver on the responsibilities of his office and drive the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He urged members of the public, media organisations, and digital platforms to disregard the rumours and exercise caution in disseminating information. “Spreading unverified or intentionally false narratives not only undermines public trust but also poses a threat to the integrity of our institutions,” the statement warned.
Akume further aligned with a previous statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Chief Bayo Onanuga, which also clarified that the SGF remains a trusted and integral part of the Tinubu administration.
The statement concluded by reaffirming: “Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”
