Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has voiced deep sorrow over the recent wave of violent killings in the North Central region of Nigeria, particularly in Yelewata, Benue State, where dozens of lives were reportedly lost in a brutal attack.

Speaking on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed area council administrators and a special adviser in Lafia, Governor Sule strongly condemned the attacks and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the governments of the affected states.

“I would like to send sincere condolences of the people and government of Nasarawa State over two unfortunate incidents that occurred recently in the North Central geopolitical zone, which led to the loss of lives in Mokwa, Niger State and Yelewata, in Benue State,” he stated.

The governor also offered prayers for peace and healing across the region, urging collective prayers and divine intervention to stop the bloodshed that has plagued many border communities.

“Let us send our sincere condolences to my brother, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State,” he said. “May the souls of the departed rest in peace. May God Almighty bring an end to these senseless killings taking place at the borders in Benue.”

The Yelewata tragedy is the latest in a string of deadly clashes affecting border communities between Nasarawa and Benue States—violence often attributed to deep-rooted communal disputes and the persistent herder-farmer conflicts that have destabilized the region for years.

Governor Sule’s remarks add to the growing chorus of calls for urgent security intervention and sustainable peace efforts in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region, where communities continue to grapple with recurring violence.
