The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has raised an alarm over a fraudulent message circulating online, falsely claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the reopening of the NELFUND Student Loan portal.
The deceptive message also includes a fake link, misleading unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement released on Monday by the agency’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND firmly discredited the message and clarified that the website attached to the viral post — https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/ — is entirely fake and should be avoided.
“The ONLY official portal for the NELFUND Student Loan Application is: https://nelf.gov.ng,” the statement emphasized.
The agency urged students, parents, and guardians to be vigilant and avoid clicking on unverified links or sharing personal and financial details on suspicious websites.
NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, safety, and fairness in its loan disbursement process, and stressed that all official announcements will only be made through its verified platforms.
The public has been encouraged to report any suspicious messages or websites directly to the agency via email at info@nelf.gov.ng or through its official social media handles:

The agency concluded by warning scammers and fraudsters to desist from exploiting vulnerable students and families, promising that efforts are underway to trace the origins of the malicious website.
