The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from recent comments made by its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of marginalizing the North.
In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Olaposi Oginni, the NNPP criticized what it described as undue attention being given to Kwankwaso by the Presidency and condemned the former Kano governor’s claims as “false, inflammatory and aimed at inciting division.”
Oginni described Kwankwaso as “a confused and expired politician,” saying his recent remarks on alleged neglect of the North in federal road infrastructure projects were baseless and mischievous.
“We are saying it unequivocally that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is expired. He has been expelled from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) over alleged misconduct, and the leadership of the party has already dragged him before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for interrogation and prosecution,” Oginni declared.
The NNPP further accused Kwankwaso of attempting to discredit the efforts of President Tinubu, especially in Northern Nigeria, in a bid to remain politically relevant.
The party warned that the former minister was using inflammatory rhetoric to position himself as the so-called “Messiah of the North” following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s exit from office.
According to Oginni, Kwankwaso no longer commands influence in Kano politics, claiming that most of the influential figures who helped the NNPP secure victory in Kano State during the 2023 elections have since distanced themselves from him.
“It is laughable that Kwankwaso, who is desperate to become Nigeria’s President, cannot even manage a successful political party. He has failed to maintain unity within the NNPP and has no moral standing to criticize President Tinubu, who is working tirelessly to unify and develop the country,” the party’s scribe added.
The NNPP concluded by advising President Tinubu to remain focused on governance and not allow Kwankwaso to use the federal platform for personal political branding, especially at a time when the nation needs peace, unity, and progress.
