President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Thursday afternoon as part of renewed efforts by the Federal Government to address the rising spate of violent attacks that have rocked parts of the state in recent weeks.
The President’s aircraft touched down at the Nigerian Air Force Tactical Air Command Base in Makurdi at exactly 12:58 p.m., where he was received by Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, key government officials, traditional rulers, and security chiefs.
As part of his itinerary, President Tinubu is scheduled to visit Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area — one of the hardest-hit locations in the wave of deadly attacks that claimed dozens of lives and displaced hundreds. His visit aims to assess the level of destruction firsthand and empathize with victims.
In addition to the community tour, Tinubu is expected to hold a crucial meeting with stakeholders including community leaders, security operatives, and political representatives to deliberate on actionable strategies to curb the violence and restore lasting peace in the region.
In honour of the President’s visit, the Benue State Government had earlier declared Wednesday a public holiday to enable residents prepare and participate in the event.
The visit marks a significant move by the Federal Government to show solidarity with Benue people and reaffirm its commitment to national security and the protection of lives and property.
