President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will, on Tuesday, honour 210 exceptional former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with the prestigious President’s NYSC Honours Award in recognition of their outstanding service between 2020 and 2023.
The highly anticipated ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 11am. The event aims to celebrate the commitment, dedication, and positive impact of Nigerian youth who excelled during their national service.
According to a statement released in Abuja on Saturday by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Emeka Mgbemena, the awardees include 200 ex-corps members who distinguished themselves across the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC scheme — Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and Winding-Up/Passing-Out.
Additionally, 10 ex-corps members who sustained permanent disabilities in the course of their service will be specially recognised under the NYSC’s Hope Alive Initiative.
The initiative was established to support corps members who faced life-altering challenges while serving the nation.
The Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande; the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Yushau Dogara Ahmed; and other top government officials and dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony.
The awards not only highlight national appreciation for patriotic youth but also reaffirm the federal government’s commitment to youth development and nation-building through the NYSC.
