Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated dramatically after former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested a regime change in Tehran and claimed that Iranian nuclear facilities had been severely damaged in recent strikes.

Iranian state television anchor Mehdi Khanalizadeh issued a chilling warning during a live broadcast, threatening that up to 50,000 American soldiers would return to the U.S. “in coffins” should the United States escalate its confrontation. He accused Trump of making a reckless decision, saying: “The U.S. president in the Oval Office chose to take delivery of the coffins of up to 50,000 U.S. soldiers in Washington.”

The remarks follow Trump’s provocative statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he claimed that Iran’s nuclear infrastructure had been devastated. Trump posted that satellite imagery confirmed “monumental damage” to nuclear sites, adding that “the most damage took place far below ground level,” implying deep underground facilities had been struck.

In response, Iranian officials warned that any further U.S. or Israeli aggression would carry “heavy consequences,” stating that any direct attack on Iranian nuclear sites would significantly widen the scope of “legitimate targets.”

Iranian media reports on Monday suggested that Israel had launched new airstrikes targeting the Fordow nuclear facility, specifically hitting access roads. Israeli media confirmed that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) were intensifying their campaign, with additional reports of strikes on Iranian military headquarters in Tehran.

Eyewitnesses described massive plumes of smoke rising over the capital as the Israeli air campaign reportedly killed hundreds of personnel from Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards.

The situation remains volatile, with fears growing of a broader regional war. Analysts warn that the growing involvement of both the U.S. and Israel in striking Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure could provoke a fierce and sustained retaliation by Iran, potentially drawing in proxy forces and escalating tensions across the Middle East.
