A gallant Armed Squad officer has been killed in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State after a deadly ambush by suspected attackers.
Citizen Television Newsroom gathered from Reformers Blog that the officer and his team had been deployed to the troubled area on peacekeeping duty following recent attacks that forced residents to flee their homes. Security operatives were sent in to restore order and reassure displaced communities.
However, tragedy struck when the squad was caught off guard by a renewed attack. In the chaos, the officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, leaving him unable to escape.
According to the source, despite his injury, he displayed remarkable bravery, confronting the assailants head-on and reportedly gunning down three of them before being overpowered. He was later shot in the head and stabbed in the back.
His remains were evacuated and deposited at the Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
The officer’s death has sparked grief and calls for greater support to his young family, with reports indicating that his wife had only recently given birth. Citizens have urged the Benue State Government to step in and provide assistance to the bereaved family.
Security analysts say the incident underscores the daily risks faced by security personnel deployed to volatile communities across the state.
