The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has elevated 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director across various departments, following the approval of Minister Nyesom Wike.

The promotions, announced in Abuja on Tuesday, were based on the outcome of the maiden Computer-Based Promotion Examination conducted on August 12, 2025, at the National Open University’s Duste-Alhaji Study Centre in Bwari Area Council.

According to Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister, the exercise was introduced to clear promotion backlogs from 2023 to 2025 for staff on Grade Level 16.

Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, explained that the 49 new Directors would fill part of the 63 declared vacancies across the administration. He noted that the Education Officer Cadre produced the highest number of successful candidates with 20, followed by the Accountant Cadre with nine.

Other cadres, including Civil Engineering, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers, had one vacancy each, which were filled by a single eligible officer per category.

“Out of the 49 promoted, Education Officer Cadre had the highest of 20, followed by Accountant Cadre with nine. While Civil Engineer, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers had one vacancy each, the Education Officer cadre had 820 eligible officers for 20 slots, while Admin had 12 eligible officers for 10 vacancies,” Olayinka stated.

The FCTA had earlier introduced the computer-based system to ensure transparency, speed up result processing, and eliminate undue influence in promotions. A minimum pass mark of 60 percent was set, in line with technology-driven standards.

With the latest promotion exercise, the FCTA said it is committed to rewarding merit, boosting staff morale, and improving service delivery across the capital territory.
