Makurdi, Nigeria – July 22, 2025 — Lobi Stars Football Club is mourning the passing of one of its foundational pillars, Rt. Hon. Prince Simon Aondona, a former Chairman and respected football administrator whose contributions shaped the club’s legacy.
In an emotional press release signed by the Club Chairman, Dr. Philip Nongu, the Board, Management, Staff, and Players of Lobi Stars expressed “deepest condolences” to the family of Prince Aondona, describing his death as a profound loss to both the club and the broader football and political communities of Benue State.
“Prince Aondona was more than a former Chairman of Lobi Stars — he was a towering figure in our history,” the statement read.
Appointed as Acting Sole Administrator before becoming substantive Chairman in the early 1990s, Prince Aondona is credited with laying a solid foundation for the club’s stability, growth, and pursuit of excellence.
His tenure marked a period of renewed vision and commitment to developing football talent in Benue State.
Beyond football, Prince Aondona served in the Federal House of Representatives representing Gwer/Gwer West Federal Constituency during the 5th National Assembly.
He was celebrated for his people-centered approach to leadership and unwavering commitment to justice and fairness.
“His legacy is etched in the soul of our club,” the statement continued. “He was a mentor, a father figure, and a passionate builder of football.
We will forever remember his noble character and the light he brought to the Lobi Stars crest.”
