In a dramatic political realignment, thousands of supporters from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Labour Party (LP) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The massive defection, which took place on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Adoka town, drew an overwhelming crowd of party loyalists, political stakeholders, and residents from across the local government. The event marked one of the largest waves of defections in the state in recent times.
The defectors were received by the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, who hailed the move as a resounding vote of confidence in the PDP. He described the turnout as a clear indication of the party’s growing strength and continued relevance at the grassroots level.
Addressing the crowd, Senator Moro commended the decampees for what he called a “courageous and timely decision,” stressing that the PDP was open and ready to integrate all new members into its structure.
“This massive defection today is a loud statement that our people are tired of political deceit and empty promises,” he declared. “You have returned home to a party that understands your struggles, feels your pain, and is genuinely committed to your progress. The PDP is the people’s party and together, we will rebuild and transform our communities.”
Moro reiterated the PDP’s commitment to inclusive governance and development, assuring the defectors that their contributions would be valued in the collective mission to improve the lives of the people of Benue South.
The defection is seen as a significant political gain for the PDP ahead of upcoming local government and general elections, as the party continues to consolidate its base in the North Central region.
