The Abuja chapter of Mdzough U Tiv, a prominent socio-cultural organization representing the Tiv people, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barrister Pius Akutah, at the Council’s headquarters in Abuja.

The delegation, led by the President of the group, Prince Michael Terver Kokoiwen, included chairmen of the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), along with key aides, including Special Assistants, the Chief Press Secretary, Protocol Officer, SA on Women Affairs, and the Convener of the Tiv Political Hub.

During the visit, Prince Kokoiwen expressed appreciation to Barr. Akutah for receiving the group, describing the occasion as historic. “You are the first Tiv appointee to officially host us, and we deeply value your openness and commitment to the Tiv people in the FCT,” he said.

He also outlined the achievements of his administration and sought the Council’s support in establishing a Tiv Community International Market. The President appealed for assistance in creating job and empowerment opportunities for Tiv youth and women in Abuja to promote economic stability and reduce unemployment.

As a token of appreciation, the Mdzough U Tiv Abuja Chapter presented Barr. Akutah with a Golden Medal of Honour and a membership card, in recognition of his service and leadership.

In his remarks, Chief Botar Amos, Chairman of the Kwali Area Council chapter of Mdzough U Tiv, praised Barr. Akutah for providing employment opportunities to Tiv sons and daughters, commending his efforts in public service.

Also speaking, Mrs. Agav Veronica Kumaden, Special Assistant on Women Affairs, emphasized the need for targeted empowerment initiatives for Tiv women, particularly in skills acquisition and self-reliance.

Mr. Iorver Tavershima Kennedy, Convener of the Tiv Political Hub, called for the formulation of a structured political and economic agenda for the Tiv Nation, advocating for stronger representation and inclusion at both state and national levels.

In response, Barr. Akutah commended the delegation for their unity and focused leadership, pledging continued support for the proposed Tiv Community Market and other community-centered initiatives.

“The Tiv community must remain peaceful, united, and forward-looking,” he said. He urged Mdzough U Tiv to remain non-partisan and inclusive, stressing that the organization should support all Tiv sons and daughters irrespective of political affiliation.

He also lauded the Tiv Political Hub for its advocacy and reiterated his commitment to efforts that uplift the Tiv people in Abuja and beyond.
