Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has officially returned to the National Assembly after serving a six-month suspension handed down by the Senate earlier in the year.
According to The Punch report on Monday, October 6, 2025, the Kogi Central lawmaker made a triumphant return to the Red Chamber amid jubilation from her supporters, who thronged the National Assembly complex in Abuja to celebrate her reinstatement. Videos shared across social media captured moments of excitement as officials reopened her previously sealed office.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 following allegations of misconduct, including speaking without recognition, refusing to occupy her assigned seat, and violating the Senate’s code of conduct. The Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, chaired by Senator Olamilekan Adeola, had recommended the disciplinary action, which was later upheld by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
However, her suspension was later overturned in July 2025 by a Federal High Court in Abuja, which ruled that the action was unconstitutional and excessive. The court also ordered the Senate to restore all her entitlements and allow her to resume legislative duties.
Following the judgment, Akpoti-Uduaghan vowed to continue representing her constituents “without fear or apology,” insisting that her suspension was politically motivated.
Her reinstatement has sparked diverse reactions among political commentators—while many hailed it as a victory for the rule of law and the independence of the legislature, others cautioned that the episode could create lingering tension between her and the Senate leadership.
