Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has expressed grief and outrage over the fresh wave of Boko Haram attacks that claimed several lives in Borno State at the weekend.
The lawmaker, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, described the killings in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area, and Mussa in Askira/Uba as “heartbreaking and deeply painful.”
According to reports, tragedy struck on Saturday morning when suspected insurgents ambushed five farmers in Ngoshe, killing them while they worked on their farmlands. Later that night in Mussa, gunmen stormed the community, killing three young people before setting shops and houses ablaze.
“These are senseless killings. Our people, whose only pursuit is peace and livelihood, continue to fall victim to cruelty. These young men and women deserved to live, to farm, and to dream, but their lives have been cut short by those who thrive on violence and destruction,” Ndume lamented in a statement issued on Sunday.
While commending the sacrifices of troops of Operation Hadin Kai under the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the senator stressed that more decisive actions are needed to safeguard rural dwellers.
“We will not fold our hands while our people are being attacked. I will continue to push at every level for more deployment of security personnel, the use of sophisticated weapons, and stationed fighter jets with improved intelligence sharing,” he vowed.
Senator Ndume assured residents of Ngoshe, Mussa, and the entire Borno South of his commitment to their safety. He urged communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, emphasizing that resilience, unity, and solidarity remain critical in the fight against insurgency.
The senator, a long-standing voice against insecurity in the North East, reaffirmed his determination to champion policies that will protect lives and restore lasting peace to Borno State and beyond.
