The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), marking the completion of a critical phase in the academic journey of junior secondary school students across Nigeria.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Azeez Sani, Acting Director of Public Affairs at NECO, a total of 179,201 candidates registered for the examination, which was conducted in 12 subjects between May 12 and May 23, 2025.
The results were approved and released following the conclusion of the 2025 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Dr. (Mrs.) Folake David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and Chairperson of the Award Committee, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and the integrity of the result compilation process.
“The Award Committee was impressed with the transparency and thoroughness of the process,” she noted during the meeting, which also had in attendance several secondary school principals from various parts of the country alongside NECO management.
In a related development, NECO announced that the 2025 BECE Re-sit examination has been scheduled for July 23 and 24.
The Re-sit will cover two core subjects: Mathematics and English Studies, offering students who fell short another opportunity to meet the necessary academic requirements.
NECO advised candidates, schools, and relevant stakeholders to check the Council’s website or liaise with their respective State Ministries of Education for access to the released results and the detailed timetablefor the resit.
