No fewer than 6,718 indigenous Tiv farmers have been displaced following attacks that sacked 314 communities in parts of Southern Nasarawa State, the United Farmers Association of the Benue Valley (AUFBV) has alleged.

According to AUFBV President, Chief Dennis Gbongbon, the displaced farmers have been abandoned by Governor Abdullahi Sule despite the magnitude of the crisis.

Gbongbon, who spoke in a statement issued in Makurdi on Thursday after making a presentation at a security town hall meeting in Jos, Plateau State, described the development as a “well-planned, calculated genocide, ethnic cleansing and land grabbing campaign launched and sponsored by organised terror groups and local leaders, including traditional rulers in Southern Nasarawa State.”

He warned that the humanitarian situation was worsening as thousands of affected farmers remain without food, shelter, or security support.

Gbongbon appealed to the Federal Government and international humanitarian organisations to intervene urgently, insisting that the crisis required immediate attention to prevent further displacement and loss of lives.

The allegations were earlier reported by Aljazirah newspaper, which noted that the Tiv population in Southern Nasarawa continues to face waves of violent invasions with little or no government response.
