Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has announced the appointment of former House of Representatives member, Francis Agbo, along with 22 others, as coordinators for the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking during an expanded caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Makurdi, Governor Alia said the appointments were designed to deepen grassroots democracy and foster broader citizen participation in governance.
He explained that the coordinators would be responsible for supervising APC activities at the local level and strengthening the party’s influence across the state. Alia charged them to serve as credible representatives of both the government and the party, urging them to work hard in attracting new members and promoting internal unity.
The governor emphasized that their roles were critical to ensuring that government initiatives and development projects effectively reach the intended beneficiaries. He warned against any misuse or diversion of public resources, noting that each coordinator would be held accountable for their stewardship.
Alia further instructed the coordinators to collaborate closely with local stakeholders to boost participation in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise. He assured them of the government’s full support in carrying out their duties, particularly as the general elections draw near.
Addressing party members, the governor frowned at the practice of escalating minor political disputes directly to his office in Makurdi. He clarified that the newly appointed coordinators would now handle such matters at the local level, while only unresolved or major issues should be brought before him.
In a related directive, Alia tasked the coordinators with identifying 200 artisans in each LGA for employment opportunities and 800 youths interested in traveling abroad for vocational training. He stated that all selected candidates must obtain a fitness certificate from the Father Adasu University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
Governor Alia expressed appreciation to members of the APC for their steadfast support and loyalty, assuring them that his administration would continue to uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability in governance. He reaffirmed that the APC remained committed to excellence and good leadership across the state.
