Benue State took a bold step toward modern urban development on Wednesday as Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia officially laid the foundation for the BIPC Eco-City Estate in Makurdi.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Barr. Sam Ode, mni, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to making affordable and quality housing a reality for the people of Benue. He noted that the Eco-City Estate aligns with his vision to transform Makurdi into a world-class modern city, complete with strong infrastructure and accessible road networks.
Governor Alia commended the innovative leadership of the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) under its Group Managing Director, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, CFA, describing the project as a milestone in reshaping the state’s housing sector. He urged residents and investors to seize the opportunity, assuring them of government’s full support.

Unveiling details of the project, Dr. Asemakaha disclosed that the first and second phases of the Eco-City Estate will deliver 70 state-of-the-art duplexes, while a third phase will be tailored to meet the needs of low-income earners. He also revealed that BIPC has acquired 30 hectares along Gboko Road for an additional affordable housing scheme designed to ease the rising cost of accommodation in Makurdi.
In a goodwill message, Secretary to the State Government, Dcns Deborah Aber, commended BIPC for its bold vision and confirmed that the state government is also collaborating with the Federal Mortgage Bank to provide more housing opportunities for civil servants.
Offering technical insight, Lucy Jato, General Manager of Real Estate and Infrastructure at BIPC, explained that the estate will feature smart four-bedroom detached apartments fitted with modern facilities to ensure comfort, elegance, and functionality for residents.
The BIPC Eco-City Estate is expected to serve as a landmark project—providing affordable homes, creating jobs, attracting investors, and enhancing the beauty of Benue’s capital city.
