Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has approved the establishment of the Mama Mbateren Alia Charity and Transit Home in Makurdi, in honor of his mother
The project, situated at Achusa, Genabe Layout in the Benue State capital, is part of the state government’s strategic intervention roadmap aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups.
According to a statement issued by Solomon Semaka, the governor’s aide on National Programs, CSOs, Voter Education, and Strategic Interventions, the home will serve dual purposes — providing temporary shelter for IDPs and functioning as a skills acquisition hub for orphans and other disadvantaged citizens.
“This initiative goes beyond the non-bankable rhetorics of previous administrations and demonstrates Governor Alia’s genuine commitment to the welfare of the people, particularly the vulnerable,” Semaka said.
The facility consists of eight modern two-bedroom flats in a secure and landscaped environment. It will also provide vocational training opportunities for displaced persons while government explores pathways for their permanent reintegration into society.
Special appreciation was extended to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. James Iorapuu, for confirming the allocation of the property for remodeling and commissioning.
Semaka urged the people of Benue State to rally around the governor’s administration to ensure the delivery of good governance.
